DAY 5: Post #1 of 4 – HORMONE BALANCE

broken image

When many people think about HORMONE BALANCE, they commonly think of sex hormones. These hormones are important, but with hormone balance, we are talking about a variety of hormones.

Cortisol is a steroid hormone produced in the adrenal gland. It is released any time our body is stressed. Often when someone is struggling with healthy weight management or mood management, cortisol is the culprit.

Cortisol disrupts other hormones too. When we are in a state of flight or fight, cortisol shows up. The more times we allow ourselves to stay in that state of stress, the more energy is expelled, the more fatigue we experience, and less energy shows up for our metabolism.

High cortisol levels can also cause high blood sugar and cravings. This effects insulin, which is a fat storage hormone. When insulin starts to be deregulated, we will see weight gain, sugar cravings, and unbalanced sugar levels.

Estrogen and thyroid hormones are also deregulated by cortisol. The bossy cortisol hormone thinks the body needs to keep running and going, so it keeps putting pressure on these other hormones to keep running too, until they just can’t keep up.

Your liver will help with regulating these hormones, so liver support is a key to bringing hormone balance.

Staying in this emergency, stressed state where cortisol levels are raised all the time, wreaks havoc on our hormone production. When hormones are imbalanced, we see things like sluggish digestive tracts, bloating, fluid retention, depression, hair thinning, and weight gain.
